Here is New York #8 – 09.14.2013

Lauren and I usually try to celebrate our birthdays by traveling somewhere nearby. For her birthday last September, we drove to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. We brought our bikes and stayed at an AirBnB. I’ve spent my whole life around large bodies of water, but the sheer volume of water flowing over the edge of the falls is captivating and mesmerizing. Niagara Falls is a strange place and riding our bikes around gave us a slightly different perspective. There’s an explosion of grand hotels, while all the old motel style lodging is closed and decaying. Looking to get away from

the same chain restaurants, we rode slightly out of the bustle to Queen Street. It was Saturday evening, and we found a ghost town. The strip looked like it had been recently renovated, but no one was interested. Having briefly looked at Alec Soth’s NIAGARA work before the trip, we were somewhat prepared, but I revisited his work when we came home, and it made much more sense. I posted a few images below using our Yashica T4 and Kodak Portra 160 film. Also, please watch Lauren’s NIAGARA video embedded below.
