great california road trip #2

After visiting Napa Valley, we drove east on some backroads until we hit Interstate 80. We switched to Highway 50 and made our way into the Sierras, eventually landing in South Lake Tahoe. The terrain in California can change so quickly. The following day we went for a long hike aiming for Maggies Peak. We turned back as we neared the summit after finding ourselves thigh deep in snow with dwindling light. I photographed Lauren at Granite Lake on the way back down and it was amazing how much the light had changed in just a couple of hours. It looked like a different lake than we had seen just hours before. Everything turned a rich blue color from the fading light reflecting off the snow covered ground and icy lake.

After several hours hiking, Lauren stands in front of Granite Lake, which is frozen, as the sun goes down. Everything was so blue from the reflection of the fading light off the snow covered ground and icy lake.
